Take That Vacation - You Deserve It!

Updated: Nov 12, 2022

Today marks the first full work week in 2020 and we couldn't be more excited. Something about the new year just feels like a fresh start, and we know for so many people across the country, this means a fresh start to your much needed and well deserved vacation time.

Did you know that more than half of American's actually leave vacation time on the table at the end of the year? I know! 55% of American's did not use all of their vacation time in 2018, only a small increase from 2017, and it's expected to continue to plateau in 2019. We need to do better at recognizing that our self care matters and use this time to recharge and fuel our creativity and productivity.

So here are 3 ways we suggest you plan NOW for your 2020 Vacation Time:

1. Let's look at the average US Vacation time - 2 weeks. We suggest that first, you always try to plan one full week off, to total a 9 day vacation. This will give you that relaxation and full recharge you need throughout the year. Anything within about a 4-6 hour flight would give you plenty of time to reconnect to your self and your family without losing valuable vacation time en route. Spring and Fall seasons are typically great for this length vacation, and allow for a diverse array of options within any budget.

2. Use your second week to scatter in a few smaller vacations throughout the year. Taking off the Friday before a Monday Holiday we know can sometimes be a challenge. So we actually suggest you take the Tuesday after the Holiday to create your 4 day weekend. This will give you the quick getaway you need and bring you back to a nice short 3 day work week. This will feel much more satisfying then 2- 4 day work weeks, we promise! Plus you take your self out of the high demand arrival and departure dates.

3. Plan ahead! If you plan your vacation time at the beginning of the year, it is less likely to sneak up on you in the 4th quarter where you have potential to lose the time. Plus, planning ahead gives you more time to create payment plans as you go and gives something to always look forward to on your calendar!

BONUS TIP: For those with extreme wanderlust, try to plan an extended full two week vacation every other year with sprinklings of your shorter trips in between. There is nothing worse then only having 5 days of adventure when you spent HOURS on a plane to visit a new country! Take the time, plan ahead, and enjoy all that this amazing world has to offer.
